How to Adopt a Child
By: Naama Pando
In Perek Gimmel of Sefer Bamidbar we read "and these are the generations of Moshe and Aharon..." It then lists just the children of Aharon. What happened to Moshe's children? Why aren't they listed? In Gemara in Sanhedrin we learn we learn that if one teaches Torah to another person's child, he is regarded as if he fathered that child. Once Moshe taught Aharons children what he had learned from Hashem they became his son's.
Why does it list just Aaron’s children didn’t Moshe teach all of Bnei Israel Torah? In Shmot 33.7 we read "and whosever sought Hashem went out to the tent of meeting". Which means whoever went to Moshe got taught by him. The fact that Moshe's children are not listed means that they never went to the ohel moed to be taught be Moshe. This year I used my opportunity to learn and teach. My amazing teachers thought me so much about what it means to be the best Jew I can be and I taught my Beit Hayeled children how to be kind and show them how to have a good life. The opportunity to teach the children in Beit Hayeled allowed me to look to them as my own children. I will truly miss them this summer.
