It’s the Truth That Counts

By: Jessica Major

Egypt has always been known as the beginning of our exile. While the Jewish people experienced pain and suffering in exile, below the surface there was always a spark of
redemption. In this week's Parsha, Parshat åéçé , Rashi says that the eyes and heart of the Jewish people were closed. The reason their eyes and hearts were closed was because they were transitioning from Eretz Yisrael to Egypt which was very intimidating and scary. They were looking for but they couldn’t see the truth. When Yaakov died, the truth was concealed. With Yaakov's death, the exile began in earnest. Even though they were already in Egypt, exile is not really a place, but a state of mind. Even in Eretz yisrael we can be in a state of exile. The way to redeem yourself from a state of exile is by revealing the truth. Before Yaakov passes away, he wanted to tell his sons about the end of days. But Hashem concealed the truth from him forcing Bnei Yisrael to search for the truth, rather than have it handed to them on a silver platter. Anything in life that’s worth something requires work, including finding the truth.

Shabbat Shalom!
