Yom Haatzmaut

The transition from the sadness of Yom Hazikaron to the joy of Yom Ha'atzmaut was felt by all on our trip to Chashmonaim, a yishuv located near Modiin. We celebrated with the members of the Yishuv through songs, special "daglanut" (flag dances) a street fair, dancing and fireworks. We were hosted by Mrs. Chana Spiegleman and her family and were inspired by her personal reflections on her own aliyah journey. We were privileged to hear the amazing story of Mrs. Ahuva Meisels, who was a fighter in the Lechi, an underground unit who fought the British before the State of Israel was born. Our students were most impressed with Ahuva's bravery and commitment to helping make the idea of a Jewish state become a reality.

Yom Ha'atzmaut is a celebration of the modern state of Israel and in order to enhance our appreciation of our land, it is customary to take "tiyulim" (trips) to places all over the country. Our tiyul plans were changed because of unusually cold and rainy weather so instead, each family from Beit Hayeled took a trip with our girls to indoor museums such a the Bible Museum, Israel Museum and Science Museum. Our girls really enjoyed spending the "chag" with their kids at Beit Hayeled and felt the festive atmosphere in all of the places that they visited. The day culminated in a BBQ in Neve Daniel at the home of Rav Goldstein where the girls were treated to a "American Style" feast of wings, burgers and more!
